We’re working to bring our university into better harmony with 土著 文化s, beliefs and ways of being. 土著 people and communities are an important part of building our university for the future.

Territory acknowledgement

We acknowledge and respect the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples on whose traditional territory the 大学 亚博全站官网登录平台 stands, and the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.

Associate Vice-President 土著

Qwul’sih’yah’maht Robina Thomas is the founding Associate Vice-President 土著 (AVPI). 的 AVPI provides leadership and direction that furthers 亚博全站官网登录平台's commitment to truth, respect and reconciliation as identified in our Strategic Framework and the 土著 Plan.

亚博全站官网登录平台’s first 土著 Plan builds on our longstanding commitment to and relationships with 土著 communities. We are working to increase educational opportunities and success for 土著 students. We are developing new and expanded educational, research and student 服务 programming with an 土著 focus.

Our plan establishes ambitious goals and clear accountability to ensure its successful implementation.

At 亚博全站官网登录平台 we continue to build on our commitment to—and our greatly valued relationship with—土著 communities. 的 Office of 土著 Academic and 社区 Engagement offers a range of programs and events designed to develop and nurture those relationships.

First Peoples House

的 First Peoples House is a home-away-from-home for 土著 students. It provides a safe space for learning, sharing and building a community.

Acknowledging the teachings from these territories, you must enter the House with a good mind and good heart.

超过1,400 土著 students—including over 200 graduate students—choose 亚博全站官网登录平台 for their studies each year.

土著 programs

We offer a variety of 土著-focused programs in a number of fields across the university. All 亚博全站官网登录平台 students have opportunities to learn about contemporary issues and historical contexts, and to participate in community-based and experiential learning programming.

研究ers across the university work closely with local and international 土著 communities and organizations on projects vital to 土著 people, 家庭, communities and nations.

土著 languages hold a wealth of knowledge and unique expression. Each language carries and represents a whole history, relationship to the land and distinct ways of thinking. 的y hold unique knowledge about living in the world, including traditions and ceremony.
